Per 10,000 aged 65+Population-normalised comparison
This measures registered locations—not beds, available places or quality. A higher rate may indicate more registered service locations, but it does not measure staffing, capacity, fees, waiting lists, inspection ratings or travel time. One location can appear in more than one service measure.
Current CQC care-directory locations mapped by postcode to current council geography, divided by the council's 2025 population aged 65+.
Eligibility threshold
Rankings require at least 10,000 residents aged 65+. This excludes two very small older populations whose rates would otherwise be unstable.
Service selection
Measures use CQC service-type and specialism labels. Care homes combine nursing-home and residential-home labels; dementia support also requires an older-adult specialism.
Geographic scope
CQC regulates England. Welsh care services are not included and require a separate Care Inspectorate Wales dataset.
